Hunting Seasons

Often, the locations where many of us undertake our fieldwork are also sites attractive to hunters.  It’s important to take precautions to minimize your risk, including the following:

  • Wear blaze orange (vest and hat at a minimum)
  • Plan field work around the major, riskier hunting seasons (e.g., fall rifle season, spring turkey season)
  • During spring wild turkey – Never wear red, white, or blue outer wear or exposed inner clothing
  • Make yourself aware of the different hunting seasons in the location where you’re working
  • Visit the Maryland DNR Hunting & Trapping Site for more information

Red, white, and blue are associated with male turkeys, and a careless hunter might mistake you for a turkey. Instead, be safe and wear blaze orange.
