HazCom is all about keeping you informed an safe around chemicals. Last, but not least, we want to tell you about everyone’s rights and responsibilities under OSHA’s HazCom Standard. It’s a little dry, but it’s important that you know your rights, follow the rules, and be empowered to speak up when safety is at risk.
Your Rights:
- Know about the hazardous chemicals in your workplace.
- Access Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for each chemical.
- Receive proper training on chemical hazards and safe handling.
- Ask questions about chemical safety without fear of retaliation.
Your Responsibilities:
- Read labels and follow safety procedures.
- Review the SDS for chemicals with which you work.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Report spills, leaks, or unsafe conditions to your supervisor.
- Participate in safety training and follow procedures.
AL’s Responsibilities:
- Identify and label all hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
- Provide Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals.
- Train employees on chemical hazards, safe handling, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain a written hazard communication program.
- Ensure that employees have access to hazard information at all time.
